When singer Kele Okereke met gitarist Russel Lissack during the 1999 Reading festival they decided to start a band. Together with bassist Gordon Moakes and drummer Matt Tong they formed Union, which they quickly changed into Bloc Party.
The angular dance-punk of Bloc Party. is strongly influenced by bands like Sonic Youth, Joy Division and The Cure. After the 'Banquete' EP (2003) the long-awaited debut album 'Silent Alarm' was released early 2005. Bloc Party grew out to be one of the most popular bands of 2005.
'Silent Alarm was followed up by 'A Weekend In The City' in 2007.
