Punk’s finest – Disco Ensemble Concert Online

Monday, November 17th, 2008
Disco Ensemble gave an exciting, thrilling and hot performance at the Paradiso a few weeks ago. We have the full concert online for you to join in,

re-live and reenact the show, just click the player below for some pulse racing punk from the Finnish group.

Disco Ensemble Biography:

Disco Ensemble is a post-hardcore/punk rock band from Helsinki, Finland. Originally named ‘DisCo’, the band was founded in 1996 by two high school friends, Jussi Ylikoski and Mikko Hakila (the name ‘DisCo’ born out of the genius idea of making people think they were going to a disco but really ending up at a punk concert). When singer Miikka Koivisto joined the band and a new pop band called Disco became popular, the guys decided to change their name to the equally misleading Disco Ensemble. But there is no need to mislead anymore for ‘Finland’s best kept secret’ to get packed venues. After years of playing in the Finnish underground scene, Fullsteam Records finally noticed them and they signed a record deal. As things got more serious, they moved the band to Helsinki where they found the final addition to the band, bass player Lasse Lindfors.

Their debut album ‘Viper Ethics’ (2003) was met with great reviews and with one big bang, ‘Disco Ensemble’, had claimed their spot in the punk genre. From thereon the band played many venues and festivals all across Europe.

The second album ‘First Aid Kit’ came out in 2005 and was the next success for the Finnish group. Featuring singles ‘Black Euro’ and ‘We Might Fall Apart’ the album topped album charts across Europe. All of a sudden they were playing festivals like Roskilde, Rock am Ring and even Glastonbury. Signing to Vertigo Records ‘First Aid Kit’ was released in more than 20 countries worldwide.

In spring 2008 they released their third album, called ‘Magic Recoveries’ which saw Disco Ensemble reach the number one position in the Finnish album charts and also get nominated for a MTV Video Music Award. On this third album Disco Ensemble added synthesizers to their sound without losing touch with authentic punk rock music.

LIVE VIDEO WEBCAST DISCO ENSEMBLE CONCERT

Friday, October 3rd, 2008
It’s been a while since we recorded a nice punk-rock show, but next Sunday, October 12th, this is finally going to change. That’s when we’ll webcast the entire concert of Disco Ensemble, the Helsinki based post-hardcore/punk-rock band.

Disco Ensemble will be playing Paradiso’s small hall at six o’clock in the evening. I know this seems very early, but it will not stop these guys from putting on a great show.

To get an idea of what I’m talking about, just have a look at the video below of their performance at the Ruisrock festival.

FLOGGING MOLLY TAKE OVER MILLENOLIN’S #1 SPOT

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008
The #1 position of the punk chart is a constant struggle between Flogging Molly and Millencolin. This week’s winner is Flogging Molly. But the difference between the two is small.

Flogging Molly mixes traditional Irish folk music with hardcore punk-rock. Guitar, bass and drums are combined with a fiddle, mandolin, tin-whistle and accordion.

Dave King is the frontman of the band. He is a native Irishman, but lives in America. In 1997 he founded Flogging Molly together with his six band members in a pub called Molly Malone’s in L.A.. Ever since, the band has been touring relentlessly. In 2008, they released their sixth album ‘Float’.
