BRAND NEW HEAVIES TOP THIS WEEK’S CHART

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008
With their 2007 Paradiso concert the Brand New Heavies hold their title as the #1 of the Fabchannel soul chart.

In 1985 London’s own Jan Kincaid, Simon Bartholomew and Andrew Levy started The Brand New Heavies. Inspired by artists like James Brown and the Meters, The Brand New Heavies made powerful soul and funk popular again for a big audience. They produced many hits, among which the best known is ‘Never Stop’.
After being the band’s lead singer from ‘92 to ’94, the eccentric N’dea Davenport returned to The Heavies in 2006. That same year the record ‘Get Used To It’ was released. Since the 80ies The Brand New Heavies have been famous for their powerful soul, jazz, hip-hop, and most of all funk.

NATE JAMES TOPS THIS WEEK RNB CHART

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008
It’s been almost two years since Nate James’s Paradiso concert. Still people can’t get enough of the video of this concert. And so he tops this week’s RnB chart.Nate James is a British soul singer and songwriter. Some say that he is the funkiest British soul singer since J.K. from Jamiroquai. He is an example of a new breed of artists who are keeping control of their own careers instead of giving it away by signing to a major label.

He released his debut album ‘Set The Tone’ on his own label named Frofunk. The feel-good songs on ‘Set The Tone’ stand out because of a mix of pop, funk and rock influences. The album earned Nate two MOBO nominations in 2005, for Best Newcomer and Best R&B Artist. In 2007 followed the album Kingdom Falls.

XAVIER RUDD TOPS SONGWRITER CHART

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008
Australian singer/songwriter Xavier Rudd made it to the #1 position in this week’s songwriter chart on Fabchannel. The competition is strong between all songwriters, so let’s see how long he will stay on top.

When you hear the Australian surf/roots artist Xavier Rudd play, you might expect an entire band, but Rudd does it all solo. This one-man-folk-rock-band simultaneously plays drums, guitar, didgeridoo, djembé, harmonica and sings. “It’s all about peace and happiness”, he says about his performance.
Xavier Rudd released seven albums so far. His fifth record ‘Solace’ went platinum in homeland Australia and introduced him to a bigger audience. He was signed by Epitaph who released his record ‘Food In The Belly’ internationally. ‘Food In The Belly’ was followed up by ‘White Moth’ in 2007.
