Iglu & Hartly & Fujiya & Miyagi double webcast

Monday, October 13th, 2008
It might all seem a little confusing. Two bands, one band called Fujiya & Miyagi, the other Iglu & Hartly, neither of them are a duo (although their duo names) and both can be seen live in concert at the same night (Oct. 18th), on the same stage, and live on Fabchannel.com!

Well… we can’t help it. All these guys just really know how to get a crowd dancing! Who are we not to share this with the rest of the world. Curious… check out the vids and bios below and have a look for yourselves this Saturday

Fujiya & Miyagi Biography
Fujiya & Miyagi are no duo and definitely not Japanese. They are an electronic band from Brighton, United Kingdom who create music that has the feel of Brian Eno and Kraftwerk. They took their name randomly from Mr. Miyagi in ‘The Karate Kid’ and a brand of stereo equipment.

David Best and Steve Lewis started Fujiya & Miyagi in 2000. At that time they were still a duo. David and Steve describe their infectious popsongs as a weird hybrid of James Brown on valium and Wire switched to pop music.

In 2003, whilst still a duo, Fujiya & Miyagi released their debut ‘Electro Karaoke in the Negative’ to the Tirk Records Label. To support the tour of the album they decided to form a full band.

With follow-up record ‘Transparent Things’ the band finalized their name along with the group set up. Fujiya & Miyagi had their well-deserved breakthrough in 2008, when releasing ‘Light Bulbs’.

The hype that the album created saw the band playing around the world and filling column inches in music papers all over the globe. The catchy single ‘Knickerbocker’ that is featured on ‘Light Bulbs’, made the craze for them even bigger.

Iglu & Hartly - a new wave rockband from Hollywood, California that make pop music you would want to marry; a one-night stand is not an option according to these Americans. LONG-AWAITED ELBOW VIDEO IS OUT

Friday, August 29th, 2008
Yes, we finally got the GO! The long-awaited Elbow show is finally online! I have to admit, it took quit some time. But I assure you it was all worth the wait. I hadn’t seen it since the live webcast and was again amazed by this marvellous band. So now that you have the chance, go and watch it! Enjoy!

  About Elbow

Elbow is a Manchester based indie pop/rock band. Its music can be placed somewhere between Radiohead and Coldplay. Over the years Elbow’s innovative sound and candid and evocative lyrics have been praised by the likes of Blur, R.E.M, U2 and John Cale.

Lead singer Guy Garvey met guitarist Mark Potter at college in 1990, who was in a band with drummer Richard Jupp and bassist Pete Turner. Guy joined the band, and so did Mark’s brother Craig. At first they called themselves Mr. Soft, which was later changed to Soft and finally into Elbow.

Elbow’s first three EP’s were given extensive airplay on BBC Radio 1. In 2001 their debut album ‘Asleep In The Back’ was released on V2 and gained them several award nominations (a.o. for the NME and Brit Awards). ‘Cast of Thousands’ (2003) and ‘Leaders Of The Free World’ (2005) followed.

The fourth Elbow record ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’ was issued in March 2008. The British quintet recorded this record without any help from outside the band.

LIVE VIDEO WEBCAST JACK MCMANUS CONCERT

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008
Thursday July 24th Fabchannel will live webcast the first ever concert in the Netherlands of Jack McManus. Lucky Jack will play his first Holland gig in one the most beautiful venues of the country, Paradiso’s small hall.

Our friends at Universal Music brought this young, curly haired singer, under our attention. We were happily surprised by his fresh sounding piano pop and are more than willing to record his Paradiso show.

Have a little warm-up fun with this video we found of Jack live at a Dutch national radio station 3FM:

  Jack McManus biography
British songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jack McManus (1984) was educated at the renowned BRIT school, where he was Amy Winehouse’s classmate. Also Katie Melua, Kate Nash and Adele enjoyed their education here.

In April 2008 Jack released the single ‘Bang On The Piano’ and his debut album ‘Either Side Of Midnight’, an amenable record, stuffed with infectious piano-driven pop songs. Beside the piano, Jack McManus also plays trumpet and drums.

Jack McManus’ father introduced him to the world of rock’n roll at a young age. He was responsible for the pyrotechnics at shows of a.o. Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Ozzy Osbourne and Bon Jovi. He made Jack listen to Elton John and Billy Joel who later became a great inspiration to Jack’s music.

WE GOT DUFFY! - LIVE WEBCAST TONIGHT’S CONCERT

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008
Fashionably late, we got the go to webcast tonight’s Duffy concert at the end of the day yesterday. We’re really thrilled to add this (rising) star on to our ever-growing collection of concert videos!

I hope this message gets to you in time for the live stream. If not, don’t worry, because as always the show will be archived later on.

Here’s a little preview of Duffy’s performance at Glastonbury this weekend:

  About Duffy
Inspired by Dusty Springfield and Petula Clark, Amy Ann Duffy brings you straight back to the soulful pop music of the 60’s. The singer from Wales is known for her amazing melodic voice, which is often compared to that of Amy Winehouse.

Duffy was born in 1984 in a small village called Nefyn in Wales. When she was a teenager she played in many local bands. In 2003 she participated in Wawffactor, an alternative version of Pop Idol and finished second. Duffy appeared on Later with Jools Holland in 2007. That same year Polydor signed the talented singer and shortly after her breakthrough was a fact.

In March 2008 Duffy released her debut album ‘Rockferry’ which immediately topped the UK and many other European charts. ‘Mercy’, one of the singles taken from this album, was good for many number 1 listings and a MOJO Award for ‘Song of the Year’ in 2008.
