Damien Rice is an Irish folk singer. He began his musical career in the Irish rock band Juniper. He left due to the fact they were signed to the commercial label Polygram in 1999. Damien Rice moved to Italy and began travelling through Europe and play music on his acoustic guitar.
After a year he returned to Ireland, and recorded a demo which he sent to producer/film composer David Arnold (Björk, Paul Oakenfold). David loved it and set Rice up in his very own mobile studio to make a record.
September 2001 Damien released the single 'The Blowers Daughter', in Ireland. The single went Top 20 and his tour was a resounding success.
His first album 'O' was released in 2002, for which he won the Shortlist Music Prize in 2003. In 2006 Damien Rice released the album '9'. The single '9 Crimes', which features on the album, became a world wide top 10 hit.
