De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig (translated: the youth of nowadays) is a Dutch hiphop group, consisting of Vieze Fur (Freddie Tratlehner), P. Fabergé (Pepijn Lanen) and Willie Wartaal (Olliçio Locadia). They met each other at a local qualifying round for the Dutch Pop Idol show and shared their love for speaking Dutch in a bad way. After several months they met Bas Bron, who they refer to as De Neger Des Heils Majoor Vlosshart. He became the producer of De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig.
The three friends are masters in creating their own slang of the Dutch language. A great example is their first single 'Watskeburt' which means something like ''what happened''. In the summer of 2005, the song was a huge hit in the Netherlands and was also released in England on EMI/Virgin, with help from Dutch labels TopNotch and Magnetron Music. It was the first Dutch song which was released in the U.K. un-translated. The record also appeared in Germany.
In 2005 De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig released their debut album 'Parels voor de Zwijnen', including singles 'Watskeburt', 'Voorjekijkendoorlopen', and 'De Stofzuiger'. Three years later their second album 'De Machine' followed, with a.o. the single 'Hollereer'.
