Living Colour, founded in 1986, is a hardrock band from New York City. The band has been experimenting with lots of styles throughout the years, combining reggae, funk and many other sounds into their hard rock music.
They were discovered by Mick Jagger who helped them signing to Epic Records. From thereon things happened quickly for the band. In 1989 Living Colour released their debut 'Vivid', which was granted them with a Grammy Award for 'Best Hard Rock Performance'. That same year they also toured as the Rolling Stones support act.
Follow-up album 'Time's Up', featuring hit singles 'Type' and 'Love Rears It's Ugly Head', had even more success. The album, which was released in 1990, was more musically diverse than their debut and was also rewarded a Grammy, this time for 'Best Hard Rock Album'. Because of ongoing problems the band called it quits in 1996.
Living Colour came back together in 2000 and went into the studio with new and fresh ideas for a record. In 2003, this resulted in the reasonably successful album 'CollideOscope'. In October 2008 their live-album 'CBGB's Live - August 19, 2005' was released.
