BOMB THE WORLD
EAST TO WEST
EVERYBODY ONA MOVE
EVERYONE DESERVES MUSIC
EVERYTHING'S CHANGED BUT MY NAME
HELLO BONJOUR
HEY NOW NOWMichael Franti was born on the 21st of April 1966. He was adopted by white parents and grew up in a predominantly black community in Oakland, California. Because of the contrast of his life situation Franti became more and more aware of his identity and the cultural differences between the different population groups.
Wherever Michael Franti comes, he brings love, peace and happiness and steals the hearts of everybody around him. With his infectious mix of hiphop, rock, soul, r&b and reggae, Franti fights all injustice in the world.
Together with turntablist Rono Tse, Michael Franti started his musical career with The Beatnigs, a drum 'n' bass/industrial duo. After releasing one album they stopped working on this project and, together with guitarist Charlie Hunter, started The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy in 1990. This band combined jazz with industrial and criticised materialism and mainstream rap music. They supported U2 on their Zoo TV tour in 1992.
In 1994 Michael Franti started hiphop/soul/funk band Spearhead. After releasing their debut 'Home' (1994) and follower 'Chocolate Supa Highway' (1997), Franti changed the band name into Michael Franti & Spearhead because of differences with Capitol Records. 'Stay Human' (2001), 'Everyone Deserves Music' (2003), 'Yell Fire!' (2006) and 'All Rebel Rockers' (2008) followed.
Through the years Michael Franti & Spearhead incorporated more pop, rock and reggae sounds into their music slightly moved away from their hiphop sound.
