Pigmeat, founded in 1988, is a Dutch folk duo consisting of Jankobus Seunnenga & Sytse Haima. They are influenced by American and Irish music from the 40's and 50's like country, bluegrass and folkrock. Although, according to the band, it must be said that Pigmeat are a highly original outfit and they are certainly not carbon copies of anyone else. Taking the stage with tons of instruments, they've created a major live reputation throughout the years.
Their well-received debut album, 'Pigmeat', was released in 1989 and featured the hit single 'I Saw The Light'. From 1990 until 1994 Pigmeat released 4 albums that saw them becoming more and more popular. They also made name outside of the Netherlands and they performed throughout France, Belgium and even Russia.
In 1995 they recorded 'Keep on the Sunny Side', which video was played at MTV and can be seen as one of their biggest hits. The following years they recorded several albums in Dutch, English and their dialect 'Frysian'. In all these years Pigmeat recorded different styles of music but never lost touch with their humorous approach on things.
In 2008 they decided to start their final tour before they will call it quits in 2009. Pigmeat can look back at 20 years in which they played over 2000 live shows.
