Indie pop/rock band Snow Patrol had changed quit a few band names and musicians in their existence. Singer/guitar player Gary Lightbody and bass player Mark McCelland, both born in Bangor, Northern Ireland, started the band in 1994, and called themselves Shrug. A year later they changed the name into PolarBear and after drummer Jonny Quin (also born in Bangor) joined the band, they eventually changed the name into Snow Patrol in 1997.
After signing to the Jeepster label in 1998, Snow Patrol released their debut album 'Songs for Polar Bears' that same year. The album became a huge success, building up a large fan base. In 2001 they released their second album 'When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up' and soon guitar player Nathan Connolly joined the band.Snow Patrol signed to Polydor in 2001 and released the successful 'Final Straw' album in 2004. With hit singles like 'Chocolate', 'Run' and 'Spitting Games', this album sold over two million copy's. Mark McCelland left the band in 2005 and was replaced by bass player Paul Wilson. At the same time keyboard player Tom Simpson was added to complete the band's line-up.In 2006 Snow Patrol released 'Eyes Open', their most successful album till that date. With hits like 'Chasing Cars' and 'Eyes Open' the band topped the not only the British, but international charts.
