The Fiery Furnaces are an indie rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York in 2000. They play a mix of folk, blues and garage and garnered critical praise for their clever wordplay and original song writing.
The band's primary members are brother and sister Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger. They signed to Rough Trade in 2002 and recorded their debut album 'Gallowsbird's Bark' that same year.
The Fiery Furnaces are often compared to The White Stripes due to the band's use of garage blues elements and the fact that they are siblings. Their latest album called 'Widow City' was released on Thrill Jocky Records in 2007.
When playing live, The Fiery Furnaces are known for making one big mix of all their songs.
